Is it Ok to leave media such as books on tape / cd / movies / computer software in the outdoor drop boxes?
We strongly recommend that you do not leave media of any kind in the drop boxes. Drop boxes are only intended to receive books. Items left in the drop boxes are not considered checked in until they reach the circulation desk, You are responsible for any damage to media until it is checked-in.

This is policy is mostly to prevent damage to the media. Most media comes in sturdy plastic cases. However, books can be heavy, and when books are dropped into drop boxes it can damage media and cases. Additionally, most non-book media items prefer room temperature environments. In Utah we enjoy a four distinct seasons which can bring temperature extremes that can damage media left in the drop boxes.

You are strongly urged to not leave media in the drop boxes. If you chose to do so, you are responsible for any damage that occurs while the media is in the drop box. Leave media in the drop boxes at your own risk.

Do I have to pick books up at their original location? For instance, if I live in Syracuse, and want to get a book from the library in Bountiful, what are my options?
You have lots of options; we are very flexible about where you can pick up your books. To have a book transfered to a more convenient location, you can do any of the following:

  • Do it online. Go to our online catalog, find the book that you want, and click "Request Item". Follow the instructions. After you log in using your library card number, the website will ask you what branch you would like the book transferred to.
  • Call it in. Feel free to call the library and request a book and location where you would like to pick it up.
  • Tell us in person. You can also come in to the library of your choice and we would be happy to set up the book transfer for you.
If the book that you want is checked in, the transfer will usually take 24 hours or less.

So I borrowed an Audiobook / movie / computer program, but I lost / damaged one of the discs / tapes. Do I have to pay for it?
That depends. We buy our media from a large variety of vendors, each with their own policies and warranties. Some vendors will replace missing tapes / discs for free. Others will only charge for the cost of the discs / tapes that were lost, in which case you would be responsible for such costs. Unfortunately, some vendors will not sell us discs / tapes on a disc per disc bases. In such cases we have to pay for a whole new set of discs. In such cases, you would be responsible to buy a new copy of the item.
